On 16th March CemNet Newsroom told us that LafargeHolcim Algérie plans to export 5Mt of cement to west Africa by 2020. Whitehopleman thinks LafargeHolcim and lots of other cement companies like CIMAT, Medcem. This into a region which already has overcapacity. Where is all that cement going to go? Of course LafargeHolcim have their major cement grinding operations in Cameroon and Ivory Coast so could source clinker for those from Algeria. CIMAT, Medcem, Heidelberg also all have major grinding operations in West Africa, so there are outlets for inbound cementitious material by sea, but incumbents like Dangote will not stand by and let in cement imports without responding.
